Sustainable and functional packaging. SMI awaits you at Interpack 2026

Environmental sustainability plays a key role in the investment choices of the companies that opt for plants and machines for large-scale production in compliance with the standards for the territory safeguard and energy saving.

The end-of-line solutions showcased by SMI at Interpack 2026 meet these requirements. At booth B15, Hall 13, SMI will exhibit a stretch film packer of the SFP ERGON series and a pick & place case packer of the ACP ERGON series, two secondary packaging solutions that enable to combine the need for efficient production with that of environmental protection, thanks to the energy savings and the use of recyclable and biodegradable packaging materials to manufacture packs in film or cardboard.

The advantages of SFP Series

The SFP packer uses cold stretch of 10-micron-thick stretch film, eliminating the need for the shrink tunnel equipped with electric resistances.

Assuming the production of 1.5 L. PET bottles in the 3x2 format in film only at 30 ppm with an annual production of 4,000 hours, you get the following benefits:

• reduced film usage by approximately 40%
• energy savings of approximately 112,300 kW/year due to the absence of the heating tunnel with electric resistances
• stable and resistant packages, thanks to the double cross wrapping of the film around the group of containers to be packaged
• reduced CO2 emissions
• simple management and maintenance of the system, thanks to the ergonomic design
• reduced energy consumption of the heat dissipation and air conditioning systems, thanks to the use of motors equipped with a digital servo drive (driver) integrated into the motor which generate less heat inside the electrical panel

The advantages of ACP Series

The pick & place machines of ACP series, available with single or double picking gripper, are versatile machines that can reach production speeds up to 25 packs/minute (depending on the product) and are suitable for the packaging of both cylindrical and shaped containers.

The product feeding operation and the formation/closure of the cardboard case are carried out by a compact monobloc system, which ensures the following advantages:
 

• alternating packaging process (stop & go) by means of a pick & place system
• compact monobloc structure, suitable even for small-sized plants
• ergonomic cardboard magazine with easy cardboard blank loading
• packaging of several types of containers with different shapes
• solution suitable for delicate products (wines, sparkling wines, liqueurs), because it does not damage the labels during the packaging process
• a model equipped with the device for the insertion of cardboard separators is also available
• easy machine access and reduced maintenance
